ASBESTOS ABATEMENT
Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral that is found in rock formations around the world. The material is mined for its useful properties, such as; thermal insulation, chemical and thermal stability, and high tensile strength.
Asbestos containing materials were commonly used in the construction industry from the early 1920’s until the mid 1980’s. Asbestos has been identified in over 3000 products globally. Although asbestos containing products are no longer manufactured for use in Canada, many of these products are still present in buildings constructed prior to the mid 1980’s.
Concern over the health risks caused by exposure to asbestos fibers has led to tighter government legislation, limiting the use of asbestos. Through various regulatory bodies’ strict guidelines have been established for the proper handling, removal and disposal of asbestos containing materials.
